Why You Should Be Including Caffeine In Your Skincare Routine

Many of us will experience dark circles at some point. Usually as a result of a lack of sleep or poor diet, although some people are just born with them. Just as with the coffee we drink caffeine applied topically is a natural stimulant. Sounds a bit gruesome but caffeine essentially causes the the vessels under our skin to contract. So it’s great for reducing dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.

There are eye creams available which contain caffeine as an ingredient. However a caffeine solution will contain a much higher concentration making it much more effective. I picked up The Ordinary’s Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG last month. I honestly don’t know how I coped before I discovered this product. It contains 5% caffeine which sounds like nothing but is actually much more than what you would find in products with mixed ingredients. It also contains EGCG which is derived from green tea leaves and another great ingredient for tackling bags under the eyes.

You only need the tiniest amount of this product. I use about one drop per eye morning and evening. It has a thick oil like consistency. When applied it has a very slight tingling sensation that feels like your skin is warming up as you work the product in. It’s not at all unpleasant and you can definitely feel the caffeine getting to work. It also absorbs really quickly so it won’t slow down your skincare and makeup routine in the morning.

There are however two things that caffeine can’t help with and that is hollows under the eye and any fine lines and wrinkles. Hollows, which give your eyes that sunken look, are a result of the bones and fat around your eye. Unfortunately there is no non-surgical treatment that can correct that. And I can say that as someone who has tried most things with no change to my skin whatsoever. From your early twenties you should already be using an eye cream to treat any early lines, but adding caffeine will also really help brighten the eye area.

I’ve been so impressed with this product so far. I’ve been using it for about a month and the dark circles under my eyes have almost completely disappeared. If you suffer with under eye bags or any darkness it really is a must for you skincare routine.

You can purchase it from Deceim, Cult Beauty or Asos. Its £5.80 (£6 from Asos) and will last you forever!

Wow, I think I need this in my life! I’ve noticed some dark circles starting to form under my eyes from my horrible sleeping pattern, so maybe this would get rid of them! Thanks for sharing 🙂
